Fiction
Our children's fiction collection contains story books for children, as well as sophisticated picture books and puzzle books, covering a wide variety of reading levels and themes.
Much of the collection is made up of chapter books. Text rather than illustration tends to be the focus of this collection, although illustrations are common in chapter books for younger readers.
You can also find dyslexia-friendly and large print books on the fiction shelves at your local library.
This collection is ideal for independent readers aged 7-12, and is also enjoyed by younger children and their caregivers in read-aloud sessions or for bedtime stories.
Sophisticated picture books
Sophisticated picture books are part of our children's fiction collection. These illustrated stories often explore complex thought-provoking themes, such as war, death, poverty, migration, and climate change. They may also challenge the reader through the use of non-traditional or unique perspectives, artwork and literary devices, such as symbolism, metaphor or satire.
Some sophisticated picture books have a longer narrative compared to traditional picture books, while others may be wordless and rely entirely on the illustrations to convey meaning.
Sophisticated picture books are particularly well-suited for tamariki aged 7-12.
Puzzle books
Our puzzle book collection contains illustrated books with fun creative challenges to solve. Enjoy logic and visual puzzles, like search-and-find or maze books. These books are ideal with tamariki aged 5-12.
