School Holiday Programmes

Our libraries offer a variety of events and activities for tamariki and rangatahi during the school holidays. Find out what's on at your library these holidays!

A young child is stroking the neck of a llama as other children look on. The llama is wearing a lead that is being held at the other end by a librarian wearing a jumper decorated with prancing llamas.

Every school holidays, we put together a programme of fun and free events and activities for tamariki, rangatahi and their whānau, ranging from special storytimes and craft sessions up to puppetry performances, author visits, robotics sessions, and more.

For the upcoming September/October school holidays we'll be taking part in the Beyond the Page literary festival.

Beyond the Page is a multi-disciplinary literary festival that celebrates out-of-the-box storytelling. The festival is a collaboration between Hutt City Libraries, Kāpiti Coast District Libraries, Masterton District Library, Upper Hutt Libraries, and Wellington City Libraries, and has a focus on non-traditional literary experiences that’ll leave your tamariki fizzing with excitement.

There is a whole host of fantastic events planned, from orchestral storytimes, workshops with your favourite authors and illustrators, and the chance to create your own tiny artworks, to junk-monster puppet creation, D&D Dungeon Mastering for beginners, and many more!

All events are totally free, but some do require registration as space may be limited.

Beyond the Page runs from 28 September-13 October.

Visit wcl.govt.nz/kidsholidays to view the events happening in our libraries around Wellington City, or head over to the Beyond the Page website to see the full schedule across the region.
