Non-fiction
Take a deep dive into your particular interests with our young adult non-fiction collections.
Our young adult (YA) non-fiction collections are specially tailored to help you with your study, hobbies, and work. You might notice that the YA non-fiction section at your local library is quite small – this is because we collect books on a smaller range of topics in this collection than we do for adults and children.
Our YA non-fiction collection is particularly strong in the following areas:
- Psychology and mental health
- Social issues and movements (LGBTQIA+ rights, feminism, racism, environmentalism, etc.)
- Sexual health and puberty
- Cookbooks and life skills
- Art and graphic design
- Gaming, including tabletop gaming (D&D, Pathfinder, Vampire: The Masquerade etc.)
- Poetry and creative writing
- Biographies of young people
The YA non-fiction collection also includes an extensive range of study guides for students sitting NCEA. These are especially popular around exam time, so make sure you get in early to reserve the ones you need!
