Wellington District Deeds

Reproduced in text form from Turton's Deeds (1878), here are the Deeds from that volume relating to Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

Some notes:

A number of North Island purchase deeds were reproduced in Māori Deeds of Land Purchases in the North Island of New Zealand — two volumes, by H Hanson Turton, in 1878. These are commonly called Turton's Deeds, and those that relate to Te Whanganui-a-Tara are what we've represented in text form in this section of the website.

You can also find Turton's Deeds with original scanned pages on the New Zealand Electronic Text Collection.

We've tried to add scans of maps relating to the deeds where possible — these are also sourced from The Epitome of Official Documents. For further context around these documents we refer you to the final report for Waitangi Claim 145 (WAI 145).
