NZMM: Artists on Wellington Music – Grayson Gilmour

By Mark

It's NZ Music Month 2015, and we’ve been checking in with some local artists, writers & critics to get their thoughts on what makes the Wellington Music scene unique.

We've been asking artists for their favourite Wellington sounds, to try and delve into the uniqueness of the Wellington music scene and sound. You can check out some older posts from critics Nick Bollinger & Grant Smithies, Blue Smoke writer Chris Bourke, and musicians Samuel Flynn Scott & Alistair Fraser, but since it is New Zealand Music Month we thought we would check in with some more people over the course of May.

Whether offering an opinion on the uniqueness or elusive qualities that make up Wellington music, or just some of their favourite albums, the most important thing is the music itself, and we hope these posts lead you back to some favourite albums, or help you to discover something new.

First up for Music Month is Grayson Gilmour:

Wellington! My on and off home for the past decade, why do I still live here? Why hasn’t the wind crazed me enough to leave? …I’d have to say it’s because of the music I find here, from the NZSO to living room punk shows, whatever you’re into, you can probably find it in Wellington. I’ve studied composition, scored films, played in bands and as a solo artist, toured internationally but always find myself coming back.
A few of my local favourites? I’m sure I’ll be missing plenty but here’s four off the top of my head…
